Aya Brea is an amazing character, well-fleshed out, tough but vulnerable, willing to do her duty despite all the horror she faces. I love that it's set on Christmas, adding an edge of depressive flair atypical of the season, isolating the loneliness many feel around the holidays and amplifying through the family drama of Daniel Dollis and the sparse locations, now abandoned with only Christmas trees, decorations, and a snow-filled landscape left behind. It's an epic tale that sees the military get involved and a whole city evacuated all while characters struggle with their inner turmoils and emotions. And of course, it's the intense body horror of Eve and the spontaneous combustion of the populace that symbolically turns these emotions outwards in twisted, macabre methods that truly gives the game a palpable weight and substance that will stick with you long after the credits are gone.
