Why does he look so glum? He won in the sense that he correctly called a significant bet against the housing market at that time, and made himself and his clients very rich. He looked so glum because he knew that while he made a shitton of money, millions of everyday folks were going to be absolutely crushed by the housing and stock market crash. Fun Fact: The man who Bale is playing, Michael Burry, also bet on GameStop stock taking off at least a year before it did.
