Unless you're planning on literally using the knife on a regular basis or are going to go around stabbing people, impurities are kind of meaningless. The appearance of the blade is pretty much the only thing that actually matters.

Knife collectors are generally just putting stuff on their wall. It doesn't matter if they're getting carbon steel or 440 surgical or Damascus or heat-treated metal for the rainbow shimmer effect or if it's deep-etched or filigreed or otherwise designed in a way that makes it absolutely useless for real work but looks cool.

I mean, people buy shit like this:

No one in real life would ever have used something like that. It's the sort of thing that would have probably gotten you killed the first time you were in a fight. But that's not why people are buying it.
