You should ask "what benefits would an evil mastermind get from preventing people from ______"
The answer to that should be obvious. The focus should be on the method and powers of control, not the reason.

And of course, we're just pretending. Nobody is trying to say that this is what is what is really happening, or is going to happen.

You should ask yourself "should I shut the fuck up" and the answer to that should be obvious.
