Yeah, I call that evolution.

Metallica tells stories. Southern Hard Rock is perfect for that. Neither band had the consistentcy of Queen. There's a lot of junk and filler mixed in with with the hits and singles. While you are hitting a familiar note by bashing Load & Reload, you're actually going against the grain. Those songs got just as much playtime as any Beatles song on EVERY rock station in the nation. The Memory Remains is beautiful and unique. It's extremely powerful. Metallica also has a slew of covers, Whiskey In The Jar, Turn The Page, etc.

They were always more technical grunge than trash anyway. Esp after Kill Em All. mean, do we judge Pantera by their hair metal days?

It's not a perfect comparison but that's the best I had offhand. Feel free to make a better one.

Michael Jackson, perhaps

Honestly I've never listened to St Anger in full. Death Magnetic & Hardwired To Self-Destruct are fine tho. DeathM has a number of hits that never drew popularity simply because they're a metal star band playing in an age where metal is dead lol. Hardwired is a thrashy remix of all the stuff we love about them. I mean, have you listened to it? It's good. But, like a lot of music, it takes some getting used to. Blasting through the album and dismissing it? I hope not! ;)

PS
~ Help me, Mary. They got me writing rock reviews. On one hand, I'm an old metal head coming out of the wetworks to play. On the other front? I'm trying to fight for all the folks who loved Metroid in the 80's. What a world.
