Current Ranking:

  1. Half-Life 2
  2. Portal 2
  3. Silent Hill 2
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  5. Resident Evil 4
  6. Mass Effect 2 (In retrospect, ME2 was very much the "let's introduce a bunch of characters and let you have a bunch of fun, wacky adventures with them" game in its trilogy. There's plot progression, but it feels like you could almost time skip from ME1 to ME3, and not lose too much in translation. That being said, ME2 vastly improves the gameplay from the first game, and it's just fun across the board. The little character quests you get to go on are great for developing these personalities, and it makes ME2 a nice like jaunt between the heavy atmospheres of the other two game. Plus, without the characters being built up, their ultimate outcomes in ME3 wouldn't work as well, now would they?)
  7. Portal
  8. Persona 5: Royal
  9. Final Fantasy VII
  10. New Pokemon Snap
  11. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
  12. Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations (It's interesting, doing this ranking and realizing that the Danganronpa and the original PW trilogy follow a similar pattern in terms of game quality. PW3 is definitely the best game of the first three Ace Attorneys though. You have a solid overarching storyline involving Dahlia Hawthorne (who is an amazing villain), and you get some closure with regards to Phoenix and Maya, whose relationship was cut tragically short. Three of the five cases build on each other in solid storylines, one of the remaining two is a unique twist in terms of the crime committed, and the last is your standard case three...which is another similarity with Danganronpa. How about that?)
  13. Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
  14. Bioshock
  15. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (This was a real solid adventure game with muder mystery and police investigation and all that good stuff. I think it's an extremely consistent game in the series as well, since a lot of them have one or two or three REALLY bad cases. PW1 is solid throughout though. I do wish 1-5 was shorter, or just didn't exist, since 1-4 is such a perfect finale. But whatever, it's still good.)
  16. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
  17. Final Fantasy XIV
  18. Detroit: Become Human
  19. Super Smash Brothers: Ultimate
  20. God of War (2005) (I know I beat this one, but I can't remember if I beat GoW2 or 3. But in terms of character action games, I enjoyed God of War. Kratos was an interesting, albeit edgelord-y style of character, and I like the concept of a mortal asshole raging out and taking down one of the gods in revenge for some wrongdoings. I'm that describes a lot of games, but I've not played a lot of character action, so here we are.)
  21. Batman: Arkham Asylum
  22. Donkey Kong 64
  23. Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
  24. Tetris
  25. The Bouncer
  26. Pokemon: Platinum
  27. Super Mario 64
  28. Banjo Kazooie
  29. Phoenix Wright: Justice for All (Case 2-4 is amazing, and it's one of the best in the franchise. Cases 2-1, 2-2, and 2-3 are all kinda lame though, and make the game a bit of a slog to get through and reach that conclusion. The first and third games both have that strong throughline, and PW2 lacks that, which perhaps explains why there's less build-up to the finale, and why that case feels like such an outlier overall. Again, it's a good game, but it's outshone by the rest of the trilogy.)
  30. World of Warcraft
  31. Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (999 is in a similar genre to the Danganronpa series, but it doesn't quite hit any of the same notes that make me love Danganronpa. Honestly, it's been a while since I played it, and it was a fine puzzle/adventure game, but it just doesn't resonate or really linger in my mind, you know? It's fine. It's in the "fine" section of this ranking.)
  32. Star Fox Adventures
  33. Half-Life
  34. Final Fantasy X
  35. Final Fantasy IV (FFIV is a fine game, but in terms of the Final Fantasy series, it's just largely there. It's not terrible. There are some major flaws in other games that inspire active dislike; with FF4, it's just very standard fantasy. The characters aren't especially deep or interesting, the gameplay isn't anything special, and it just kinda gets weird and peters out at the end. Again, it's not TERRIBLE, but it just doesn't stand out much overall.)
  36. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl
  37. Half-Life: Opposing Force
  38. Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal
  39. Team Fortress 2
