Playing the same songs over and over again gets boring

Unfortunately most of the audience doesn't give a shit about your new work. Especially if you haven't really been hugely popular as a band for years.

You can easily notice this at most concerts. Watch the general audience mood/reaction to newer songs versus their reaction to popular hits.

Noticing that reaction is part of why some bands eventually sour on their older work. They can feel annoyed that the audience only really cares about their older work, that they wrote when they were essentially different people who saw the world differently, and which they grew tired of long ago. But the audience paid to see your hits, so if you don't play them, they can sour on you pretty quickly as well.

At the extreme end, you get stuff like the time Sting from the Police indulged in his own weird musical tastes and did a concert where he mostly performed on the lute, and you could tell most of the audience was just regretting wasting the money they spent on the ticket. They were basically dead silent until he finally did an actual song from the Police and the audience suddenly revived a bit. There used to be an audio clip of that out there somewhere.
