It wasn't even a trade-off. I think most people regarded it as a knockoff. At least the N64 had its own identity.

Dreamcast was hype at launch. It was the first 3D console to not look like hot diarrhea, had Sonic, Shenmue, Dead or Alive, and other stuff. The games looked AMAZING back then.

Then ya know, ps2 came out.
