The first game gave an unusual amount of backstory and attention to Far Zenith and their Odyssey project. It's only Far Zenith's word that said the Odyssey was destroyed. The big mystery from the first game is who sent the signal that disrupted GAIA; space-faring humans wanting to move back home would have the means and the motivation.
