Single Mother, Melissa Henderson from Georgia faces ONE YEAR in PRISON after she let her 14 y/o daughter BABYSIT her siblings while she went to work cause the daycare centre was closed down during COVID in 2020 as some call her actions reckless while others defend the desperate mother!!

She's a Mom of FIVE who is caring for her kids all on her own and is charged with criminal reckless conduct after she let her children under the care of her 14 y/o daughter, Linley, in May 2020 when COVID shut down the daycare centre

Linley had online school and didn't notice that her 4 y/o brother, Thaddeus had slipped out of the house when he saw his friend outside and went to play with him in Blairsville

Within 15 minutes she noticed him gone and found him at his friend's house down the street but the friend's mom already called 5-0 and Henderson was asked to come home and police took her statement. 2 weeks later they returned and ARRESTED her in front of her kids

Officer Mark Pilote said that anything terrible could have happened to Thaddeus after leaving home including being kidnapped or bitten by a venomous snake

Henderson sobbed and said she has no words on how low she feels now and at the bottom of her heart she is a good mother and wold do anything for her kids and to be handcuffed in front of them was the worst feeling in her life.

She remembers curling up in a ball in a corner and wanting to hide as her ex-husband had to bail her out

Her attorney, David DeLugas argues the charge is unconstitutional and is asking it to be dismissed and argues that Georgia's own child protective guidelines say children can babysit at the age of 13 with a parent's permission

But Georgia Division of Family and Children's Services said Thaddeus was left home alone before and she was given a warning even though they found no wrongdoing...

They also said Linley had some measure of a LEARNING DISABILITY with ADHD making her unreliable as a sitter despite her having a GPA of 4.45 and was vice president of the 4-H Club and broke school records in varsity track and completed CPR program at a Red Cross Childcare Program

Officer Langley says it's unlikely a guilty verdict will land her in prison but he wants to keep the community safe and that her teen daughter, no matter her legal age to babysit will not suffice anymore

If convicted she faces 1 year in the bg house and a fine of $1000 as a gofundme was set up and Henderson has not returned to work since
