It's only happened to me once and it was right after an autosave anyway, but there are lots of stories about crashes out there. Also visuals are kinda buggy sometimes. Like wisps literally fading in and out right in front of you. I gotta see if I took a video of that lol. --- I'm sorry, but 10,000 of ANYTHING on a PS2 would absolutely destroy your framerate.
