My grandfather spent $2795 for a Kaypro 10, that's over $8,000 in modern dollars. More recently I bought my spouse a $4000 Dell XPS gaming laptop while he was traveling overseas installing software for the Air Force. It had two hard drives in a RAID array, a high-end video card, a 17" screen, full-size illuminated keyboard with keypad, DVD writer, and a TV tuner. But Dell screwed up and accidentally sent me two of them (and ignored me when I asked about returning one), so really they were only $2000 each.
