But spiders in video games never scare me. They're usually too big, half the fear of spiders is that they can stealth because they're so tiny (the other half is that they have eight legs).

See, what triggers it is completely different for me. I'd afraid of them all in general, and don't like being surprised with a picture of any spider, but most of them don't bug me too much in most circumstances. In WoW, there's absolutely nothing that scares me in the Spider Wing of the Naxxramas raid, for example, though the end boss can make me feel uncomfortable every now and then. However, a model of spider that's completely unused in that raid, the base model used for a mob Redridge Mountains, terrifies me. The name starts with t and should be pretty obvious; I refrain from typing it because even looking at the word makes me incredibly uncomfortable. The fact that I continued playing WoW as a Nelf when the entirety of the Night Elf zones from 1-30 is chock-full of this model, down to the first cave you go into at like, level 3, is a miracle. Something about them being cartoon-y at least makes them something I can deal with, probably a reason I can deal with the OoT/MM/SS spiders, with the exception of the few times when the SS Skulltullas crawled around and tried to hump Link's face, which admittedly led to me momentarily freaking out. Radiant Historia's Hell Spider took me a week to beat just since it took me so long to build up the courage to face it, and still took a good bit longer than any other boss battle in the game once I started fighting it since I covered anything that was visible of the thing to try and ensure I wouldn't see it. A lesser game would've been abandoned at the sight of that thing, but it's still enough to prevent me from replaying the title.

Just seeing a realistic image of one those things overwhelms me though. I can't play Twilight Princess, period. I lost it watching Zachnorn's tiny TP stream back in the day when one of those things dropped down and assaulted him. Then, the damn things returned in dungeon 6.... but hairier. The one time I tried watching Outsourced, there was one briefly walking across someone's desk within the first 30 seconds, which I only glimpsed for a second before having a mental freakout and frantically having to try and calm myself down for a good 10 minutes afterward. Watching Harry Potter 2 is completely out the window. Hell, even 6 is questionable just because that bastard's corpse is a rather sudden surprise on the screen.

I find it rather telling that one of the very first mods to Skyrim was changing the spiders into bears. Arachnophobia must be some serious ****, man.
Really? Tell me more. And then maybe I can finally get around to playing this game.

I can't trust those things. >_> I heard of a DA2 mod that claimed to remove all the spiders in the game... but actually changes every single thing possible into a spider. Ugh.
