yeah, back everything up.
disable windows update since that's giving you problems.
then run the needed tests. memtest is a goodie here as faulty memory can lead to these kinds of issues. your hdd may be failing too, so a chkdsk may be in order, or any of the other billion things that diagnose your hdd.
hopefully it's not a power supply issue.
