To me, FFX had the perfect ending. It's like reading the end of a good book, then a while later it gets a highly unnecessary follow-up that s***s all over that perfect ending.
I mean, this is definitely true, but a game has different responsibilities than other mediums.
I think it did very interesting things with the genre, even with the ineffective sequel story to FFX.
Would it have been better if the story was based on new material? Definitely. But then again they probably really wanted to save development time and cost by reusing the engine. In that case I would have recommended new characters completely, but alas.
