Sure. But it is easier when working with the thing that I have to limit by itself (milk). Meanwhile, I could eat cereal all day if I wanted to! I will not give up efficiency!

I have never, in my life, done anything like this. I considered it. But once something is out of the container, it is out of the container and will not be going back in.
And especially with cereal! I only tear open one small part of the bag, on the top, at the side! I don't bust it all open. So imagine pouring cereal back into a small part of a bag!
