Yeah the DRM is a once-at-launch thing now which is still kinda bad but it's the standard (permanent internet connection requirement wasn't standard).
I got AC2 on the PC and it's pretty good. The thing that bothers me is that, yeah, the draw distance sucks, and the shadows are weird (might be just my GPU or something but I dunno). And the graphical settings don't do anything. You can have higher resolutions than the console versions, and AA which is excellent, but all the other settings literally don't change anything in the game. It's really annoying because my PC can run it at like 30 FPS but I would be fine turning down some things just to get it up to 60 FPS.
Control interface is fine, especially since you can plug in any gamepad (not just 360) and customize all your controls however you like. Haven't tried the PC controls, but if it's like AC1's PC controls, then it can't be that bad.
