...And? Something like Golf isn't that different. Or like...olympic 100m races. People care about the world record for 100m, they don't actually care who else was there at the time.
There's a degree of performance to it too. Like...thousands of people paying to watch someone play Piano doesn't sound shocking if it's the best piano player in the world. Nobody would call Piano a sport, but you can certainly be impressed by someone's technical skill when they play a challenging piece.
