The 2nd thing, nursing, is what kittens do when they're trying to get milk from their mothers. If you let your cat keep doing that eventually she'll probably start sucking on your shirt. I think I remember reading that it's comforting for them. If you raised your kitten on your own without its mother then it wouldn't do that.
I usually feed my cat twice a day around the same times each day but he's still pretty fat.
