I still have no idea why people hate Nickelback. They're not an amazing band, but the few songs I have heard from them weren't awful. Nothing special, but not awful. *Shrugs*
It's the law of popularity. The more popular something is, the louder and more extreme the hate towards it will be. There are probably a ton of bands worse than Nickelback, but most people wouldn't know what they are, so few would care if you said something like, "Negasonic Potato Junction is the worst band in the world."
