Ehh, Fire Emblem's was kinda lame. Ike's all talkin to people like "oh I didn't even notice you were a bird person haha I guess I just see everyone as equals berpaberpader" and it's like, man
Ike knows they're different, he just doesn't care. It has less to do with equality and more like ignorance of any reasons to hate the Laguz.
And really, if you were in his position, you'd want to make as few enemies as possible regardless of whether or not you were a racist.
