Topic	is there enough to do in greater tokyo area for a few weeks

Also, you can ride the shinkansen (bullet train) to get to Kansai. You don't have to fly. It would probably be faster for you to do that than flying anyway, especially if you're not going to be near Haneda (the other Tokyo airport, where most of the domestic Japanese flights fly out of). It takes literally about the same amount of time to fly on a domestic flight from Tokyo to Kansai as it does to take the shinkansen from Tokyo to Kansai. My suggestion, if you can, is to expand your trip to 2 weeks.
