tbh, Pepsi and Coke have both been running absurdly stupid pandering commercials for years. There's nothing unique about this commercial (and we've had countless soda bringing people together commercials), but people randomly seized upon it for memes because the militant fascist groups -- which aren't known for having a sense of humor -- were outraged by it.

To be fair, it is a pretty disgusting ad, using political unrest to sell a product. I feel like it goes beyond pandering.

But that's just my opinion. I'm still not entirely sure what the main reason was for the majority of the outrage.
