tbh, Pepsi and Coke have both been running absurdly stupid pandering commercials for years. There's nothing unique about this commercial (and we've had countless soda bringing people together commercials), but people randomly seized upon it for memes because the militant fascist groups -- which aren't known for having a sense of humor -- were outraged by it.

To be fair, it is a pretty disgusting ad, using political unrest to sell a product. I feel like it goes beyond pandering.

But that's just my opinion. I'm still not entirely sure what the main reason was for the majority of the outrage.

But it's not even the first time that political unrest has been used to promote soda. Hell, it's not even the first time in the past decade it's been used to do that.

The outrage is pretty arbitrary.

But when the political unrest is caused by a stupid premise, does that not make it okay?

The more silly the unrest, the more seriously its participants try to take it. It's overcompensating and all that.

How is it that fucking hard to comprehend what I said?

There will always be someone that doesn't know what the fuck Coke or Pepsi is so they run ads to maintain brand awareness in case someone doesn't know they exist.

Well, that and they're trying to instill favorable responses at an unconscious level in peoples' heads so they'll be more likely to buy the product. It's not strictly just a matter of telling people you exist. And, given the ubiquity of soft drinks, it's important to maintain your name.

Of course, Pepsi will always be seen as the runner-up because Coke is more widely carried in restaurants and fast food places.
