With that said it shouldn't really even matter because in context her race doesn't play that huge of a role in most of the adaptation of GiTS. The movie needed an A-list actress to generate interest in the film or else it wouldn't have gotten green lighted anyways, so I can understand why they chose Scarlet Johansson. But honestly as a person who has watched the film, there's problems with it. First off it's a purely "all style, no substance" type of film. It introduced interesting philosophical question at the beginning of the film, but doesn't do anything with it.
