As it was the fire ball of the Tzar Bomb didn't touch the ground as the reflected blast wave pushed it back up. After a certain point most of the downward blast wave gets reflected by the earth and disrupts then expanding part of the wave that's moving horizontally. --- FFVII Remake: A disaster in the making.
