Billions of man hours wasted to trivial security checks These organizations scare people into giving up loads of freedoms and privacy in turn for safety, like the Patriot act They take advantage of immigration laws and our people's willingness to help to invade communities (not so much in the USA though) Constant handfuls are enough to make people question walking with traffic They dominate our mind's time by constantly being a headline in the news Preparing for/ preventing/dealing with/ cleaning up terrorist attacks cost use billions each year. Heck, I think I remember NYC spending at least a billion a year. They're evil, but they're smart.
