Man, they took a bold fucking approach with that ending. It's not uncommon for family to die in an animated film, but it's usually near the beginning, not towards the end. When someone appears to get killed around the third act, they tend to be alive by the end, so I was fully prepared for them to physically come back with some magical deus ex machina stuff. But nah: just them as representational spirits. Cut to black, the end. ---
