Cameron Crowe didn't even want the movie to be named almost famous.. it was just called "untitled" Even the first scene where he is going through all his sisters records is longer and shows more records. Little things like that plus whole new scenes. I always thought it was weird it was only nominated to four awards at the academy awards, since it won best original screenplay over gladiator and then wasn't even nominated for best picture. I have a firm belief had the directors cut been the one that was put out, it would have been nominated for best picture.
