If the stool is thick and lumpy, this means that is moves very slowly through your intestines, allowing all the fluids to be absorbed. You are constipated. Constipation is often caused by a low fiber diet and/or low liquid intake. Fiber holds on to fluid, and therefore, a lack of it in your diet will lead to harder stool that may be more difficult to leave your system. Drink at least two liters of fluids, like water, to make sure you are well hydrated. Sometimes a diet high in dairy can cause constipation, so try reducing your dairy intake for a week or two to see if that helps. Also try to avoid alcohol, baking soda, and all products with refined white flour, sugar, white rice and yeast.

Light to medium brown stool indicates a normal-coloured feces.

The ideal stool is about one inch (2.54 cm) in diameter and twelve inches (about 30 cm) long.

If you defecate from three times a day to once every three days you're in the normal range. On average a person defecates about once a day.

Rapidly sinking stool can indicate that a person isn't eating enough fiber-rich foods, such as vegetables, fruits, and whole grains or drinking enough water.
