Despite not being able to find anything in all that time besides "he didn't pay more tax than he legally had to" and "he said grab a girl by her privates" I have high doubts that they were suddenly getting close to discovering the "huge connection" and Trump had to fire him right away. I'm not claiming Russia is some saint but they've has been the scapegoat of American politics ever since they wouldn't play ball and left the EU, threatening unified global government. Well since you have doubts I guess nothing should be investigated, we should just trust your gut. That's not the point, you shouldn't investigate someone because you want them to be guilty, you should do it because there evidence of wrongdoing. Additionally, this is all being done on taxpayer money.
