How are you supposed to care about the main character when he's just smug and annoying? And that trailer doesn't portray any other characters as being significant, so that's not a good sign. At least TBBT has some main characters who are likable (relatively speaking). If they did a coming of age story with a gay female lead you would say it sucked because of the leads gender and sexual preference? A lot of shows have smug leads. Heck the fonz wasn't even supposed to be a smug character, but his smug attitude made him cool. Sheldon being smug and annoying makes people watch to see what kind of stuff he gets into. Not everything has to be relatable.
