It's unfortunate it's taken to that extreme by some. The fact is 'we' are rare. There's nothing wrong with acknowledging that. Adding cis-this or that is kind of silly. I can understand in discussions specifically on the topic of gender identity, but trying to change language in general is just plain silly. Most people are straight (or mostly straight) and identify as the gender they were born as. Accepting that as the default should not be an affront to those who are different. And that typically gets the "you can't choose who is offended" line. But that said, and it pains me to repeat it since bigots love it but it's true: one does not have a right to not be offended either.

Most people that believe in equality are not so outrageous. I don't presume to speak for anyone else than myself, but I do agree things are taken way too far by some. Jokes are not inherently bigoted. A character that is stereotypical is not inherently the result of bigotry. A flaws woman or LGBT character is not by default the result of misogyny or bigotry.

Those extremes are ridiculous and dilute the message of equality, but that said they aren't an excuse to fight against equality either.
