I think the English language could use gender neutral pronouns. Not because someone identifies as some some unusual entity, but because when explaining something in a general context that applies to an individual using a gender neutral pronoun would feel less clumsy than picking a specific gender, using "s/he", or the worst offender, using a plural form such as "they."

What's wrong with 'she'/'he'?

I think it really breaks apart the fluidity of the sentence. "s/he" is not a real word. It is a concept, substitute, or place holder for a gender neutral word that doesn't exist.

When it is read out loud the person will say "he or she" or some other similar variant, and that is not what the sentence says. The "word" is "s/he" which cannot even be pronounced. So, of course, "he or she" is interjected as a substitute. If three words are necessary to identify a single concept or noun, then I believe it would be in society's best interest to consolidate that phrase into a single word.
