especially when you live in a place that has shared walls and ceiling/floors

it's a risk of living in a place like that.

if a pipe that services my toilet under the floor breaks due to wear and tear how could i have prevented that if i didn't have an issue with my toilet? it was just as much unforseeable for me as it was for the person who got leaked on. unfortunately, a lot of times first notice of an issue is damage to another person's property.

it's a condominium complex. each unit is owned by an individual but the individuals are all governed by an HOA. HOAs usually are only responsible for common elements.
