okay so I'm going to talk about Lily now. I actually feel like I might've told this story already but idgaf. Also I'm actually feeling pretty good today so screw you guys here's a happy story.

Last Wednesday as I was leaving my office I saw this girl peeking in and asked her if she was looking for something or someone, and she nodded no and, yknow, in really broken English, said she was just looking around. There's a lot of freshmen doing their student orientation during the summer so I didn't think much of it and left.

Well she followed after me and tapped my shoulder and asked me if I could give her directions/ show her around. She needed to find the Student Center. I tried explaining (badly, because she had a hard time understanding) that she was already in the student center, so she asked if I could give her a tour. And I was like heck yeah because 1. I literally h*cking love this school and giving tours is hella fun, and 2. I'm basically trained in how to give really good tours of the school because of the organizations I'm in.

So you know I show her around. Food place, coffee place, piano rooms, game rooms, tv rooms, bookstore, etc. She seems really interested and is asking a lot of questions. We have to stop occasionally because we have some difficulties talking to each other but we work it out. She wants to sit and talk, so we grab a table.

Then, I finally understand what it is that's going on here. This girl, "Lily" (obviously not her real name, but that's the name she gave me so who am I to say otherwise) and her parents flew to America just a few days ago to go university shopping for grad schools. She is about to start her final year of compsci undergrad in China, and heard my college was pretty solid at it. Her first day here, she was mistaken for a freshman and was helped out by some people trying to help her find the orientation group. They told her to go to the student center and that pretty much anyone could help her with whatever she needed (as in, people here are pretty friendly and willing to help others). Lily misunderstood and thought she was required to go to the student center and ask someone for assistance, like for a translator, and mistook my office and I for that person.

So we had a good laugh and I cleared it all up for her. Helped her find a map of the school, showed her how to get back home, and then we parted ways. Well first we exchanged contact info then we parted.

On Friday she got a hold of me and asked if I could go get some lunch with her. So I agreed and she asked if I could help her with her English because she needs to better it before she can move to the US. We spent 2-3 hours practicing small talk and she had a lot of cultural questions and she was really eager to share stuff about her life abroad and it was all good fun.

We hung out again this past Wednesday, and again today. Today she wanted to practice conversational topics that she has to pick a side on and argue for/against, and she wanted to do it about stuff related to America. That got confusing really fast so it ended up with us doing research into how the taxation system here works and well okay the point is we've been having a good time. Summer friends, ya dig? We talk about all kinds of stuff, and it's all just good stuff going on.

Her English has definitely improved since ten days ago, and today before I left she told me she's scoring higher in practice TOEFL tests, and said a lot of it was due to me being a good friend and helping her out, and let me tell ya I wanted to cry.

She leaves back home in less than three weeks. I hope she gets into whatever college she wants to, even if it's not this one :b

We're supposed to play basketball tomorrow. I, uh, think she's overestimating how well that's gonna go <_< but we'll see.
