The goal is to start with a shitty village and turn it into a luxurious metropolis by ramping up the economy and encouraging immigration. Super customizable and you can build some legit cities. Drawback is a steep learning curve. I recommend Dawn of Discovery (aka Anno 1404) for beginners. 2205 is also a title you can skip.
