Being straight, gay, or bi doesn't mean you like anyone that's opposite to you, the same as you, or everybody, respectively, there are still many nuanced preferences and a selection process. Pansexual is simply a bastardization of bisexual because some people can't acknowledge farther-reaching generalities of a pre-existing group. I'm a guy and I prefer athletic chicks but that doesn't mean I'm some special new category because the women I find attractive are usually less feminine than stereotypical "girly girls."
