Remember that back in the PS1 days, rental was MUCH more common than it is now.

Most people I know who played it around that time rented it. Most people I know who own it now finished it on a rental back then and bought it later in a reprint/re-release later, and not everyone is a die hard fan.

I personally own like 3 copies of it because I bought a reprint back then and the seller made a mistake and sent multiple copies, even though I freagin hate the game (I had played it but never finished it before, and only realized how bad it was when I played the full game)
