I believe that Jesus existed, but he was more like a political that wanted a better world than the son of God.
It existed many Messiah candidates back then, even the Bible mention one of them, John the Baptist, and they all were supposed to have done different miracles. Miracles that would later be known to be made by Jesus.
I dont know if he spread the lies to be more popular, like any political, or if it was his disciples that did it after his death because they believed that they tried to make the world a better place. As the years went by and it started to spread, more was added to the stories. The best way to spread a religion is to make it adapt. Give the people something that they recognize by absorbing their already existing culture and add some bonus, like getting inside heaven after death, and people will convert.
We had tons of different texts and versions of Jesus, so they decided to make a canon version when they created the Bible. The ones in charge picked the texts that fit their purpose, did some changes and suddenly it was changed again. Even today we got different views of Jesus. Like those who believes that Jesus hates homosexuals while others believes that he got no problems with them. And then we got the group that believes that Baby Jesus is a saint and a different person.
