I was dorky through half of high school but I took a cheerleader to prom... Maybe some people just like others for who they are? This is going to sound brutal (for me), but my wife didn't really care about looks that much (though her type seems to be rugged blondes). She was sort of "meh" with my appearance (in spite of probably qualifying as said type) but her MILFy young foster mom thought I was good looking and advised her not to blow me off (which she says I owe her bigtime for :P). We just had fun playing Halo and stuff and it went from there... #haloandchill

Seriously, though, when we met, both of us had other people chasing us, so it wasn't a lack of options, it was just a matter of always being comfortable with one-another for no real reason. Everything just clicked and that was that. 12 years later, we're still going. I always wanted a "not average" girl (not meaning "average" looks-wise but more not traditional or bland), and unfortunately for me, I tended to only attract boring girly-girls. My wife was a jock that played rugby and volleyball all the time, which was a huge plus to me. I prefer burly women over feminine ones. In my experience though, personality and compatibility carries a relationship across the finish line. You just need to like how the other person looks enough to give them a chance in the first place.

I've known a few girls that get with less-than-attractive dudes and could probably do better in that specific regard, but they just know what makes them happy and run with it. A quality person wants another quality person. A shallow person wants a trophy.
