Hawaii, probably.

Meh. I like lau lau, but I mean Hawaiian food is basically just known for raw seafood (like poke) or smoked pig (kalua pig).

...and poi. But still, poi is gross, so... :<

Hawaii is more about local cuisine than it is about actual Hawaiian staples.

Stuff like fried noodles, chicken katsu, saimin, teriyaki meat, meat jun, kalbi, lechon (kawali), pork adobo, etc. A lot of Japanese, Chinese, and Filipino dishes.

I like trying new things though, and while there's a decent variety here, there's a lot more in large urban centers with more cultures mixing together.

Yes, I agree that Hawaii is a huge mixing bowl, mainly of Asian dishes, considering that it's the only state where minorities are the majority. But I just figured that it's better to focus more on its indigenous food rather than just what's most popular and/or common in the area, since any state will have Asian food and whatnot, even if they're known for something else.

Like whenever I have guests from the mainland, we always go to some Hawaiian buffet because everyone wants to try the island flavors. Going to L&L or some other plate lunch place is always second banana; it's poke, lomi lomi salmon, kalua pig, poi, etc. first.

So I mean I'm not saying that Hawaii should ignore everything but Hawaiian food; just that that's what it's known for. And also that I don't like it with a few exceptions :<
