I came here thinking of both FFTactics and Dragon's Dogma. Was not disappointed.

Seriously, FFTactics had some of the slowest and most confusing elements to it... I nearly gave up many times. Honestly, the only reason I continued was because my brother and I kept switching off playing, and we didn't have too much else to play at the time. After almost an entire playthrough it just clicked with me, and now I love it. Still do.

Dragon's Dogma has ridiculously confusing quests, several completely missable. Plus the first half of the game becomes boring on multiple playthroughs once you realize how much fun the "post game" and "Bitterblack "Isle" areas are. It also of course has the BS fake difficulty scaling like most RPGs where certain areas of the game become trivial or are impossibly simple because of stats. Dragon's Dogma has by far some of the most fun and exciting combat mechanics, along with the very interesting and deep pawn creation/management. It's one of my favorite games of all time despite the flaws.
