Jack's Joker was a passable interpretation, but the problem was that he was essentially apeing Caesar Romero's camp, Adam West joker on the set of the modern, grimdark interpretation of Gotham so you had a jarring dissonance in the performance. Sorry, but Ledger really understood what made the Joker tick and he went so far down the rabbit hole it killed him. Actually trying to method act the Joker is a really bad idea for one's own psyche. I would really have loved to give Leto a chance but Ledger's joker is such a hard act to follow, and Suicide Squad unfortunately went with the Juggalo Scarface Joker visually so Leto never really stood a chance no matter how hard he tried to live as the Joker during filming. My one major sorrow for the Joker was that Ledger died before someone had the sense to cast Brittany Murphy as Harley Quinn. I always saw her as Harley after her role in Sin City which was one spandex suit and a sledgehammer away from being Harley to begin with. Additionally, Heath and Brittany were close friends and I can only imagine that their chemistry as Joker and Harley would have been off the charts.
