Yeah, you *can* get a travel visa and just work illegally there. You might not be able to get normal teaching jobs since most of the schools want a degree, but you could do tutoring or something. There also a lot of what are called "white monkey jobs" (and the jobs are every bit as offensive as the term implies) which is mostly just work where you're being hired simply because of your race and nationality -- and usually also gender -- and you aren't expected to do much. When you hear some of the stories about the jobs, they're absolutely fucking crazy.

As for language teaching, an American with a bachelors supposedly has an easier time finding work than a German with a masters degree, just because Chinese schools, etc, favor certain nationalities.
