Watchmen

Rating: 93/100

An all-time classic, immaculately illustrated and terribly well-written. My main points of contention lie in the nihilistic notions of Moore's superheroes. I always feel the need to explain to people that while deconstruction is a valid mode of character exploration, making the assumption that grittiness is equivalent to reality or even just better storytelling is a false exquivalency. Moore's best superhero work comes from a story of unbridled optimism in the face of a changing world landscape. For me, Watchmen often just seems to stem from Moore's hatred of all things Iron Lady - much like a lot of the British Invasion at DC in the 80s.
