once you get a generation or 2 removed from horrible people, revisionist historians love to point out the positive shit that came about as an unintentional byproduct of the shit they did.

ghenghis kahn for example gets credit for opening trade between europe and asia. alexander gets credit for bringing helenism to the middle east. both were not anything either of these monsters intended. they were genocidal maniacs, but once you actually get to a point where nobody living experienced this awful shit, or knew anyone who did, the narrative changes.

theyll make arguments about all of the technological advancements that were made. oh we made it to space off the backs of the nazis. and oh, israel was made into a nation state as a direct result of hitlers actions and blah blah blah

its shooting an arrow and then painting the bullseye around it. revisionist historians are great at it.
