Hamfisted? probably, but a significant part of the plot/show revolved around it, but also doesn't. Nonsensical? It made just the minimum level of comprehensibility. I think it blurred supernatural/fairytale shit and mental illness, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Just put him in a fucking clinic. Also, he's so normal and uniteresting, he's flavorless regardless if he has or hasn't have his memories. Grah, just so much apathy for him. Also, I think I have a general problem with duo's in anime. If I don't care or hate a main character, then the show just drags for me.
