What happens now?

Now is ze time in shprocketz vere we danse.

It's also the time for predictions. Hop onto bracketmaker, and start filling out your bracket with the songs you want to see rise to the top (or the ones you think will win) and take some time to lament all the horrible bracket placements that put two of your favorite songs together in round 1. The contest will begin in earnest Monday night at 10 PM eastern, so try to finish your predix for bracket A by then.

The tournament itself

Each day, one or two matches will be put up for your consideration. After listening to both songs (that's important, darnit!) you post in the topic to indicate your preference in each match. Poll lasts 24 hours from time of posting. The song with the most votes wins and moves on. In the event of a tie, we rerun the match.

If you cannot be present on the day of a match, you may post your advance votes in this topic. Results will also be announced here, along with any other items of import, such as if I cannot be home to start the topic myself. If that should happen, there is a script in the spreadsheet to copy-paste.

We'll begin with two matches per day thru the first 3 rounds. The final 16 will be done at one match per day, for a total of 71 days.

Oh, and please note the poll up above. There's been some discussion about whether or not to have a side bracket, and what form it should take. There are two options on the table. The first comes from former host Ed Bellis, who has put together a line-up of 64 songs that had once appeared in the contest and either underperformed or were intriguing enough Ed thought they deserved another chance in the spotlight. The second comes via discord discussions, where it was suggested we should let everyone pick a couple songs that don't have to survive the nomination process, and we just shake them up and throw them into a bracket together. And no, we don't have to do a side bracket. It's certainly less work for me. I just think it helps keep things interesting.

.

I think that's everything, and I hope everyone enjoys the contest.
