Yes, soldiers are people, but they are also conditioned killers. There are some in uniform who wouldn't think twice about killing anyone they were ordered to, fellow citizen or not. And if you can find a couple dozen drone operators that are willing, that makes it simpler. And "sane politicians"? WTF are politicians in this country ever going to do except issue strongly worded statements and line their pockets with lobbyist money?
I'm not saying "military vs. citizens" is a solution (You really thought I implied that?), I'm just saying that if it came to that point, Ricky Redneck with his semi-auto AR and 5000 rounds is not an even match to highly trained fighters with fully automatic rifles, explosives, and various other weapons of war.
You're calling for the military to kill American civilians in order to enforce a law. That is a much serious problem then any we currently face. Do you realize what you're saying? And if that isnt your solution. What do you envision? People saying "here you go, take my guns" and peacefully going along with it? That won't happen. The army will be forced to kill people, or imprison them; Americans on American soil. What does that sound like to you?

I'm saying that if it came down to Joe Average vs. an ill-adjusted 4-tour Marine, it will NOT go well, for anyone. Just by dint of materiel, personnel, and experience, the military would have the upper hand in an all-out conflict.
I agree with you. People will die. People that are currently law abiding will be made into criminals.And guns will still be available on the black market. You seem to support a tyrannical government as the lesser of two evils.
